Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah, Istanbul

Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah (later no longer operated by Jumeirah) offers a historic and luxurious stay in the vibrant Beyoğlu district. This iconic hotel, renowned for its 19th-century elegance, features beautifully restored rooms and suites, a distinguished restaurant serving Turkish cuisine, and a relaxing spa. Guests can immerse themselves in the city’s rich cultural heritage, enjoy personalized service, and explore nearby landmarks like Istiklal Avenue and Taksim Square.

Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah is a classical hotel which first opened its doors in 1895 and now are a 115-room hotel. The location is in the center of Istanbul with many interesting tourist sights in the neighbourhood. The check-in was nice and I received a warm welcome.

Pera Palace is unfortunately not a smoke-free hotel and I very specifically requested a non-smoking room and was told my room was non-smoking. I was escorted to the room and the first thing I was was an ashtray. Hotels can make mistakes, but it’s how they make up for them that’s important. The receptionist apologized and gave me another room which thankfully was non-smoking.

I stayed in a Deluxe Room which was very small for a Jumeirah, but still up to a high standard. Comfortable bed, flatscreen TV, working desk and the highlight: Incredible views of Istanbul. Many chain hotels still charge for internet, but not Jumeirah. The high-speed complimentary internet was nice to experience.

The service at Pera Palace was partly up to the high Jumeirah standards. Some of the staff were truly great with an excellent attitude, while some could need more training. The restaurant staff didn’t impress me much, but the food was very good.

To sum up, Pera Palace might not be one of Jumeirahs best properties, but Pera Palace still delivers a great experience in a historical hotel.
