Nayara Hangaroa, Easter Island

Nayara Hangaroa is a luxury eco-resort located on Easter Island (Rapa Nui), Chile, offering guests an experience that harmoniously blends modern comfort with the island’s rich cultural heritage. It is a member of Leading Hotels of the World and is located in Hanga Roa, the island’s sole town, and it provides convenient access to attractions while maintaining a secluded and relaxed atmosphere.

I arrived at the resort after a flight from Santiago, followed by a short drive to the resort itself. I received a friendly welcome, and afterwards the resort was very helpful in finding a guide to follow me to the top sight of Easter Island (photo above). That didn’t take long, and I was soon on my way out to explore. Expericing Easter Island was an extraordinary travel experience and one I would highly recommend to travellers seeking unique experiences. Easter Island is located approximately 2,300 miles off the coast of Chile and is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the world. It is a member of Travelers’ Century Club’s list of 330 countries and territories.

The resort features 75 rooms and suites, each thoughtfully designed to reflect the island’s Polynesian roots. Architect José Cruz Ovalle drew inspiration from the traditional moai statues, incorporating local materials such as volcanic stone and native wood to create a seamless connection with the environment. Large windows offer panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, inviting guests to witness beautiful sunsets from the comfort of their private terraces.

I was very satisfied with my room. It had a high comfort level with a comfortable bed, freestanding bathtub, and rain shower as the highlights. Dining at Nayara Hangaroa is a celebration of Rapa Nui’s culinary traditions. The resort’s restaurant offers a menu that includes local ingredients in international cuisine. Guests can savor dishes inspired by the island’s history and culture, which can be complemented by an extensive selection of Chilean wines and tropical cocktails.

Easter Island is renowned for its enigmatic moai statues and rich Polynesian heritage. Nayara Hangaroa offers curated excursions that allow guests to explore these historical sites, providing insights into the island’s complex history and culture. Activities include guided tours to the Rapa Nui National Park, snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, and experiencing traditional dance performances that celebrate the island’s vibrant traditions.

Committed to environmental stewardship, Nayara Hangaroa has implemented several sustainability initiatives. The resort has achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, making it one of Latin America’s first green resorts. Construction utilized local materials and traditional building techniques to minimize environmental impact. Additionally, the resort engages in community-based tourism, ensuring that local Rapa Nui traditions and customs are preserved and respected. A really great resort, I would highly recommend to discerning travellers visiting Easter Island looking for the best place to stay on the island.
