Hotel Randers
Hotel Randers opened in 1856 and has since 1892 been owned by the Mathiesen family, offering a comfortable and convenient 4-star city hotel experience in the 6th biggest city of Denmark.
I have lived in many places in Denmark since I completed the last country in the world in 2016. I liked having the possibility to rent a place for some weeks or months before leaving the country on yet another adventure. Over two periods, I have lived in Randers. First in the Over Hornbæk area, a few kilometres from the centre, and later in the centre itself, around half a kilometre from Hotel Randers, which is located right in the main shopping area of the city centre.
When I lived in Over Hornbæk, I visited Hotel Randers once and liked the cosy atmosphere. This year I went back for a 3-night stay, and it was better than many 5-star hotels I have stayed. The staff delivered friendly, efficient service at the front desk. The room had a beautiful contemporary design and was great, with a comfortable bed, rain shower, TV, working desk and complimentary high-speed internet. Hotel Randers went a step further than many 4-stars by having a lovely gym with good equipment and a great traditional sauna next to it.
Hotel Randers offers a range of versatile event spaces that are ideal for hosting weddings, conferences, and social gatherings. From intimate boardrooms to grand ballrooms, each venue is thoughtfully designed to cater to the specific needs of every event. With state-of-the-art facilities, professional event planning services, and impeccable attention to detail, Hotel Randers is a great choice for various events.
I have stayed at many hotels in Denmark, and Hotel Randers is one of the best 4-star hotels I have stayed at. A comfortable well-run hotel in a great location for exploring the lovely city of Randers as well a the much bigger Aarhus, which is the second-biggest city in Denmark. The central station of Randers is within walking distance of the hotel, from where you can get to Aarhus in about 30 minutes. However, if you are driving, here are some of the things you can do in and around the area:
Hvidsten Kro
One of the most famous inns of Denmark is located in the small town of Hvidsten, a short drive from Randers. Nestled in the idyllic countryside of Jutland, Denmark, Hvidsten Kro stands as a cherished symbol of Danish heritage and warm hospitality. Steeped in history and surrounded by picturesque landscapes, this historic inn offers a unique blend of tradition, culinary delights, and a welcoming atmosphere. I have visited the inn a number of times and been very impressed with the cosy atmosphere. A must if you visit Kronjylland as a tourist, in my opinion.
Randers Regnskov
Nestled in the heart of Randers, Denmark, Randers Regnskov (Rainforest) is a captivating and immersive attraction that transports visitors to the enchanting world of tropical rainforests. Spanning across an impressive area, this unique zoo and botanical garden provides an awe-inspiring experience, allowing visitors to discover the rich biodiversity and natural wonders of the world’s rainforests. With its lush greenery, exotic animals, and educational exhibits, Randers Regnskov offers an unforgettable journey into the depths of nature right in the heart of Denmark.
Randers Regnskov offers a host of activities and events designed to engage visitors of all ages. Children can partake in interactive play areas, educational workshops, and special events that provide a hands-on learning experience. The attraction also organizes themed exhibitions, seasonal festivities, and captivating performances, creating a lively and entertaining atmosphere for families to enjoy.
Gammel Estrup
Dating back to the 15th century, Gammel Estrup is a well-preserved example of Danish manor house architecture. Originally built as a fortified castle, it has undergone various transformations over the centuries. The manor’s architectural style is predominantly Renaissance, featuring intricate details, ornate facades, and beautifully landscaped gardens. As visitors approach the estate, they are greeted by the grandeur of the manor’s exterior, setting the stage for a captivating journey into the past.
Gammel Estrup is not only a stunning architectural marvel but also home to a remarkable museum dedicated to Danish cultural heritage. The Manor Museum allows visitors to explore the lives of the aristocratic families who resided here through a vast collection of artefacts, historical documents, and interactive exhibits. Each room tells a unique story, shedding light on the daily lives, traditions, and social dynamics of the past. From opulent staterooms and elegant ballrooms to intimate chambers and functional kitchens, the museum provides an immersive experience that brings Danish history to life. Gammel Estrup is located just over 21 kilometres by car from Hotel Randers.
Vebbestrup Flødeis
Located just over 30 minutes drive north of Randers, Vebbestrup Flødeis is a very popular destination, especially in the summer. I have visited the place several times and made an effort to go with my parents-in-law when they visited Denmark for the first time in 2023. People line up to get their delicious soft ice, which is very reasonably priced at around half the price of similar places, but with a taste, I haven’t found better anywhere in the world.
Memphis Mansion
Memphis Mansion is located in Randers itself, and it is a famous tourist attraction dedicated to the memory of the legendary musician Elvis Presley. The mansion is a tribute to the iconic Graceland estate, which was Elvis Presley’s former home in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. The mansion in Randers was designed to replicate the exterior and interior of the Graceland mansion as faithfully as possible. It offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the atmosphere and surroundings that Elvis Presley enjoyed during his lifetime.
Inside the Memphis Mansion, you can explore various exhibition areas showcasing Elvis Presley’s life and career. The mansion features rooms such as the Jungle Room, the Trophy Room, and the Living Room, which are all replicas of the ones found in the Graceland mansion. These rooms are filled with Elvis memorabilia, personal belongings, costumes, photographs, and other significant artefacts.
