Hotel Hvide Falk, Ilulissat
Hotel Hvide Falk, centrally located in Ilulissat, Greenland, offers guests a comfortable stay with stunning views of the Ilulissat Icefjord—one of the most beautiful natural wonders in the Arctic and a UNESCO World Heritage site. I have visited more than 2,000 destinations, and Ilulissat is one of my favourites. Hotel Hvide Falk is one of the best places to stay in this charming town, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark despite being very far from Denmark itself.
The hotel features 37 well-appointed rooms, many with balconies overlooking the bay, allowing guests to enjoy the midnight sun in summer and the northern lights at times in winter. Additionally, there are nine waterfront apartments with private terraces, ideal for families or those seeking extra space.
My experience started with a friendly welcome by a receptionist from Aarhus before arriving at a beautiful room which had a very modern bathroom wth a rainshower. It was special to be able to speak Danish so far away from home, and to still be in the Kingdom of Denmark despite being in a quite extreme climate.
The on-site restaurant offers dishes including Greenlandic ingredients such as reindeer, musk ox, salmon, and trout. The dining area provides beautiful panoramic views, enhancing the experience. I didn’t dine at the restaurant, but I heard great things from others.
The service at the property is great with friendly staff, the location is ideal for exploring Ilulissat, and the comfort level is very high. Better than many 5-star hotels I’ve stayed in my travels.
Hotel Hvide Falk offers various excursions to help guests explore Ilulissat’s natural beauty. In winter, dog sled tours provide an authentic Arctic experience, while summer activities include boat trips to the Ilulissat Icefjord, visits to nearby settlements like Oqaatsut and Ilimanaq, and whale-watching tours.
Established in 1970, Hotel Hvide Falk has maintained its historical charm, featuring local artifacts and Greenlandic art, including works by renowned painter Emanuel A. Petersen.
I can highly recommend Hotel Hvide Falk to discerning travellers visiting Greenland. It has a high level of comfort, a great location and friendly staff. I doubt I would like any hotel in Greenland more if I stayed at all of their top hotels.
