Hótel Geysir is a modern, family-run hotel located in Iceland’s Haukadalur valley. Opened on August 1, 2019, the hotel offers guests a blend of contemporary comfort and natural beauty, making it an ideal base for exploring Iceland’s Golden Circle.
The hotel features 77 rooms, including six suites, each thoughtfully designed to reflect the surrounding natural landscape. The architecture emphasises harmony with nature, utilising materials that blend seamlessly with the environment. Rooms are equipped with modern amenities such as private bathrooms, flat-screen televisions with satellite channels, tea and coffee makers, and free Wi-Fi.
I had a short one-night stay at the hotel, but it was enough to form a good opinion about the hotel. The check-in went quick and I arrived soon after at my room. I was impressed with the room which had a contemporary design including a freestanding bathtub in the bathroom.
Guests can experience delights at the Geysir Restaurant, which offers a menu inspired by Icelandic cuisine. The restaurant’s design mirrors the hotel’s commitment to blending with nature, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere.
For relaxation, the hotel offers a spa inspired by the surrounding geothermal features. The Geysir Spa provides a tranquil environment where guests can unwind and rejuvenate, drawing inspiration from the natural elements of the area.
Hótel Geysir’s prime location allows guests to easily explore the Geysir geothermal area, home to the active Strokkur geyser. The hotel is also within reach of other Golden Circle attractions, including Gullfoss waterfall and Þingvellir National Park. Additionally, the area offers opportunities for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding, with bike rentals available at the hotel.
I didn’t see much of Reykjavik in my trip to Iceland, where there was extreme weather during my stay. I had a booking at the beautiful Exeter Hotel in Reykjavik, but I didn’t make it there. Maybe another time in the future.
The hotel is committed to sustainability, incorporating eco-friendly practices in its operations. The building’s design and construction prioritise harmony with the natural surroundings, and the hotel engages in initiatives aimed at preserving the local environment.
Iceland has many similarities to my country of Denmark. Iceland used to be part of Denmark, and it is the only country outside Denmark that teaches Danish in schools. It is an expensive country, but it has stunning nature, friendly people, fantastic food (Restaurant Dill is one of the best restaurants I have experienced in the world), and it has been ranked as the most environmentally clean country in the world.
Iceland has changed a lot since the first time I visited the country, and now it has a lot more visitors. A recommendation would be to visit out of the high season to have better experiences, especially at the main sights.
Hótel Geysir offers a distinctive and comfortable experience for travellers seeking to explore Iceland’s natural wonders. With its modern accommodations, commitment to sustainability, and proximity to key attractions, it offers a good base for exploring the nearby attractions. I was very satisfied with my stay and can definitely recommend the hotel.
