Comwell Borupgaard
Comwell Borupgaard is a 149-room country hotel located in Northern Zealand, approximately 50 kilometres north of Copenhagen. The popular tourist town of Helsingør, home to Kronborg Castle, is located less than five kilometres from the hotel. Comwell Borupgaard is surrounded by beautiful nature, and my first impressions of the hotel were good before I stepped into the hotel.
My stay started with a quick and friendly check-in before I arrived at my room. The room was comfortable with a contemporary design, ultra-comfortable bed, bathroom with shower, TV, and complimentary Wi-Fi. The facilities at Comwell Borupgaard are one of the main selling points. Besides a fitness centre, the hotel has a lovely spa with various facilities, including a hot tub and saunas.
The spa is called AquaSpa and offers the following facilities: Indoor hot water pool at 32 degrees, indoor whirlpool at 38 degrees, indoor sauna, indoor steam bath, Indoors fitness facilities, outdoors park sauna, outdoor hot tub at 38 degrees and outdoor terrace and relaxation area.
Comwell Borupgaard is part of the Comwell chain of hotels. It is, in my opinion, comparable with brands such as Scandic and perhaps Novotel, although the design tends to be quite different. Comwell currently has hotels in 16 locations at the time of writing this article. Comwell also has a loyalty program called Comwell Club, where you can earn points, among other benefits.
The breakfast has always been good at all the Comwell hotels I have stayed in my travels. An extensive buffet with a lot of options. A good breakfast is a great way to make an excellent final impression on the guest before departure. There are no kitchens in the rooms, but if you are looking to make your own meals, you can buy things at nearby supermarkets, Netto and Føtex, which are just a short walk away from the hotel.
Comwell Borupgaard also has a gourmet restaurant called Linden. According to their official website, they have a new menu every day based on the season’s best produce. I haven’t tried this restaurant, and my best recommendation for a gourmet restaurant in Denmark is in Copenhagen. Marchal at Hotel D’Angleterre on Kongens Nytorv make reasonably priced lunches, and it is one of my favourite restaurants in Denmark.
The location is an ideal place for exploring Northern Zealand by car. Besides Kronborg Castle in Helsingør, I personally find Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød more impressive. The gardens are a beautiful walk and a nice addition to the castle itself. There are also tourist summer towns like Gilleleje and Liseleje, while you of course also can easily visit Copenhagen with its many attractions.
One of the things I have enjoyed the most about exploring Denmark has been islands. There are approximately 75 inhabited islands in Denmark. Approximately 70 kilometres southwest of Comwell Borupgaard, Orø can be found. It is a lovely small island with under 1,000 people and an ideal day trip for something different. Denmark is an expensive country to travel, but I find visiting islands to be excellent value.

Overall I was very satisfied with Comwell Borupgaard. A quiet, comfortable hotel with a good breakfast, a great spa and an attractive location for exploring Zealand. I definitely recommended.
