Carmo’s Boutique Hotel

Carmo’s Boutique Hotel is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World located in Northern Portugal and with a unique concept of 15 rooms and three tent suites, one of which I was fortunate to experience.

Small Luxury Hotels of the World is a great marketing organisation with an impressive portfolio of participating hotels. Carmo’s Boutique Hotel is not a typical hotel. A countryside hotel that has tents. I don’t recall having seen that anywhere in Europe.  Portuguese Architect Carvalho Araújo is the man behind the modern design of this hotel.

I stayed in one of their three tents, which had a bed, TV, shower and a freestanding bathtub with a beautiful view as the highlight. The service is friendly and informative. Diana at the reception was helpful several times, including in the evening, where I got a chance to experience the spa facilities after closing hours. It’s a nice little spa area with a swimming pool and a jacuzzi as a good place to relax after a long day of exploring.
